perfect credit is not a requirement for a mortgage. Most people have defects in their credit which makes it less than perfect. the question is how far from perfect. One or two late payments on credit cards or a late payment on a car loan will not disqualify you. You have to show by your history that you are willing to repay your creditors and that you have in the past. have you pulled a free credit report from www.annualcreditreport.com to find out your situation. Keep in mind that the first time home buyer credit has been extended into 2010 so it is an excellent time to buy. I would contact a mortgage professional and give him or her all your details to determine your chances. It is not as intimidating as you may think and the satisfaction from ownership is a very pleasant feeling.
