He should receive a monthly statement, if not you can check the county records as they will show who the lien holder is.

Assuming he can't find any documents or an annual statement, you should be able to access the county records to determine who the original lender was. Some counties have this online and others you must go into the recorder of deeds office. This is public information, so you should have no problem obtaining info.

That information will show up on the county records, and also on his credit report (he can obtain a free copy at www.annualcreditreport.com)
