Not sure exactly what is needed to bring it up to FHA standards if that's what your talking about. If so as long as it has everything required by FHA guidelines at the time of appraisal then yes you can make improvements to the property to make it FHA compliant. I would speak to a local mortgage pro to see what needs to be done and make a plan before doing anything.

Consider the FHA 203k, which provides controlled funds for repairs.

Both of the previous answers have some validity - it will completely depend on what the property needs. If it just a little paint and a stairway railing, you might be able to get it done beforehand and qualify the home for regular FHA. Otherwise, you could look to qualify for a 203k loan - which is a rehab loan through the FHA loan program. That program allows significant remodeling/upgrading within certain boundaries. Is there a reason that you NEED to go FHA? I would reach out to one of the fine lenders that have responded and dig into some details to find the best solution to meet your personal needs.

Hi Jillian, As mentioned already, this depends on the details of what is needed to make it FHA eligible. many of the items that would make it not eligible for FHA are likely to be an issue for any type of financing as well. If it's too much the 203(k) program could work for you. Many lenders only do the 203(k) "streamline which doesn't allow as much to be done as the "full" 203(k) so that is a question to ask and understand of a lender upfront. I'm happy to help with the financing or just give you advice. If you need more information, or a competing rate quote call, email or use my live support button to discuss or get in touch with me.
