can multifamily housing qualify for VA?

one unit owner occupied but not the other. however, the couple who'd be renting from me also have military benefits. Is this allowable with VA? by kay.aaron796889 from Reidville, South Carolina. Dec 23rd 2014 Reply

Yes VA allows 2-4 unit properties as long as 1 of the units will be the Verterans primary residence. Hope this helps.

As long as you are residing in one of the units, you are allowed to rent out the other remaining units to anyone you want to. They do not need to be VA eligible as they are not borrowers but tenants. For mulit-family dwellings, VA will allow Duplex, Tri-Plex and 4-Plex properties. ~ Bert Carpenter, The LoansA2z team of NOVA Home Loans ~ NMLS 40586 ~ Licensed in Arizona (AZLO0911876 / AZBK0902429), Washington (WALO40586 / WACL3087) and California (CADOC40586 / CAFLL6036566).
