If you own a home with a mortgage balance less than 50% of the current value of the home, and you have a family member such as a parent over 62, who lives with you in the home, they may be able to help you qualify for a reverse mortgage. If this sounds workable, call me at 503-620-2239.

Age has nothing to do with it. Assuming your SSI is permanent, then it can be used to qualify you for a mortgage. Work with a local Mortgage Banker/Broker rather than one of the big banks or big national mortgage factories. Unlike a bank employee, who is most likely just an order taker, a Mortgage Broker/Banker is Trained, Tested and Licensed in all aspects of Mortgage Origination. We have access to loan products of MANY lenders as well as grant programs designed to assist first time home buyers. But more importantly, we are trained to take a look at the various different options available to you and guide you into the one that makes the best sense for your situation. If you are looking for a reverse mortgage type of program, unfortunately the answer is no. Do you own the home outright or do you have a mortgage on it? You should contact a Lender 411 mortgage professional in your area, she/he will be able to answer your questions and give you some guidance. Good Luck.

Hi, Everyone who offered an answer with regards to reverse mortgages are correct. However, age nor where you derive income from could be discriminated against when applying for any mortgage. That said, there are many options for people who own homes. If you'd like to explore this option further, some of those that responded already are licensed in Ohio, as am I. You could give anyone a call to figure out what options, if any, are available. Currently there are not any mortgage programs similar to a reverse mortgage for borrowers that are under the age of 62.
